Private Health Insurance in Germany: Products, Pricing and Challenges

In this session, we will explore Germany’s private health insurance system (PKV) from an actuarial perspective. Participants will gain insight into coexistence with statutory health schemes, benefit design and pricing methodology. We will deep dive into the rate adjustment framework, highlighting key biometric bases, regulatory requirements and sustainability.  The presentation concludes with a discussion of current challenges like demographic shift and high medical inflation environment.

SPEAKER

Dr. Edo Schinzinger, DAV

Dr. Edo Schinzinger is Regional Chief Actuary for Gen Re’s Life/Health operations in Japan and Southeast Asia. He has over 12 years of (re)insurance experience in various actuarial roles. Prior to joining Gen Re, he worked as a pricing actuary in a German health insurance company where he built his expertise on health insurance pricing. Edo holds a PhD in Mathematics from Ulm University (Germany) and is a member of the German Actuarial Association (DAV).
