Dear SAS members,

We are pleased to welcome Ms. Theresa Blissing, Detecon Asia-Pacific, as our speaker for this talk on Big Data:

Adoption of Big Data in the Southeast Asian insurance industry: An organizational change perspective

Big Data has become a ubiquitous term attracting wide spread interest in many sectors and the insurance industry is certainly no exception. While there has been extensive research on the technical aspects, the impact of the adoption of Big Data on an insurance organization are often not transparent. What does it mean for an insurance company to actually adopt Big Data? What are the challenges and resistances? As part of the master thesis “Adoption of Big Data in the Southeast Asian insurance industry: An organizational change perspective” a total of 28 insurance industry experts across Southeast Asia including Hong Kong have been interviewed. Findings from those interviews give some indication of the impact of Big Data on organizational structures, processes, technology and people and what challenges and resistances insurers are facing.
