As many of you know, SAS was formally inaugurated in 1976 and so 2026 is a big event in the life of SAS – the 50th anniversary of SAS.
Some of you will recall the fun and excitement of the 40th anniversary dinner in 2016 and it is intended there would be an even more fun and more exciting dinner for the 50th anniversary dinner.
As part of these celebrations, SAS is planning to produce a 50th anniversary commemorative book covering the history of SAS over the 50 years. As such we would like you to send us your memories of SAS events and photos that you have captured over the years to help us capture the essence of SAS over time.
We would of course be particularly interested in photos and details of event from SAS’s early years of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s – the era before cameras were attached to phones!
We have already received a letter from an individual who in the late 1950s sat some of the Institute of Actuaries exams in Singapore.
- The sharepoint for members to upload their photos/memories here
- Non-members can email their photos to SAS Secretariat directly at secretariat@actuaries.org.sg
Given that SAS is a regional financial hub, people come to Singapore to work or study, join SAS and after some years depart for other countries and so no longer continue their SAS membership (though some come back and rejoin!). This is especially true if they work for multinationals. So, if you are aware of an ex-member of SAS working somewhere in your company internationally (especially those who might have been junior actuaries in the 1980s and 1990s) please do forward this email to them and ask them to send their photos and memories.
Also, if you are interested in joining the task force producing the book (a professional writer will do the actual writing), please do get in touch.
Looking forward to seeing all those photos!
